East Lincoln Rescue Park

East Lincoln Rescue park Preliminary Planning Summary

February 1, 2011

After a few years in discussions, the "East Lincoln Rescue Park" vision is moving toward a reality. The East Lincoln Rescue Squad was founded in October 1977 to provide emergency medical services and support to the citizens of the East Lincoln County area. In 1982, ELRS purchased a 4 acre tract of land on Highway 16 and constructed a facility to house the vehicles and other office and meeting rooms for the squad.

ELRS provided vital emergency services to the area, including first response, transport, search and rescue, support of events, water support on Lake Norman and many other services. The citizens of the East Lincoln area supported the ELRS with their donations through the years, enabling the rescue squad to construct an addition to the building and purchase the vehicles, boat and equipment necessary to support the community.

The East Lincoln Rescue Squad operated under a contract with Lincoln County to provide services. In June 2008, seeing that the first response services were provided by the area fire departments with paid personnel and medical services were being provided by paid personnel working for the county, this contract was not renewed. The East Lincoln Rescue Squad ceased to be in business June 30, 2009.

The ELRS Board of Directors, desiring to manage its assets to give back to those citizens and the area which supported, entered into an agreement after several months of planning and discussions. The agreement, between the ELRS, Lincoln County and the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation provided that:

After a few years in discussions, the "East Lincoln Rescue Park" vision is moving toward a reality. The agreement, between the ELRS, Lincoln County and the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation provided that:

The January 2011 Master Plan calls for the following activities to be supported or provided:
  2. Two multi-purpose fields, sized for soccer, football and lacrosse
  3. One large or two small playgrounds
  4. Picnic areas with shelters
  5. Walking trails through the property, including a ½ mile paved loop trail around the sports fields and greenspace
  6. Pavilion with concession area, covered picnic or meeting area, storage, and restrooms
  7. Nine-hole disc golf course
  8. Outdoor classroom/amphitheater
  9. Off-leash dog park
  10. Large multi-purpose activity shelter
  11. Open play/greenspace
  12. Trail connection to Lincoln Charter School

The park will be a public facility, available to any citizen. We hope to see soccer, football, and lacrosse matches, kids and adults playing disc golf and walking the trails through the property. We will be able to reserve some areas for family reunions and picnics, community events, and want to see kids playing in the playground. It will take time and a vision to build the park, but this will be an asset to the community for many years!

Detailed design is underway for the park facilities with construction of the first phase of the park anticipated to begin in Fall 2011.

During this time, public and private grants will be applied for so the park can become the best possible asset and provide the most benefit to the area.
