Michael Wooton’s beloved charge to us on Wednesday mornings: “He profits most who serves best” and “service above self” [go to work!] were formally approved by Rotary International in 1950 as our two official mottos. We all love Mike and his rallying words that remind us why we are gathered together early in the morning and what we have the privilege go and do for our community and world throughout the week. This past week we began the first of this year’s club assemblies to go about dreaming and doing the work of our Rotary. While there is no official date that Rotary’s clubs began to organize themselves into committees, we do know that the first to emerge was Community Service in 1907 when the founding Chicago club addressed the need for public facilities for the city’s citizens. Next Rotary formalized its commitment to International Service as one of its major objectives in 1921. Membership and Club Admin Committees soon followed with the intent to attract and retain members and support the smooth functioning of clubs and meetings. Today we have many club committees that help us increase the scope and effectiveness of the ideal of service above self and help us put our passion and dedication into action. If you have not already joined a committee or two :), please take some time to reflect on what you are most interested in and where your heart leads you. We have a member interests, gifts and talents survey to help you find what you are drawn to and what is purposeful and a great fit for you. Rotary has so many meaningful opportunities for us to “profit most” by “serving best.” Thank you, Mike for your inspiring words. We love you!

Collections Starting for Operation Warm 2025 - Opportunity to Buy Coats and Hoodies for Foster Kids
This is Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's seventh year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. The club purchases coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child. Older children will receive hoodies since they much prefer them to actual coats.
The committee is headed up by Cathy Smiley and will raise money for approximately one month so that orders can be placed with our various suppliers.
Please make checks out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
