President's Message

Hello, Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians!

We had a very informative program last Wednesday led by Doug Core, Jim Perry and Denny Daar. They spoke about some very positive steps the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Foundation is taking to serve our community while building up its legacy fund. They also spoke about our October barbecue contest fundraiser and how its proceeds will enable the future growth of our club Foundation.

This Thursday, January 23rd please come to Trilogy and join our Membership Chair Cindy Guldy where we will host an organizational gathering for our first "satellite club".

Looking forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday and don't forget that this will be the final week to bring your gently used shoe donations for "Shuz for Santa Cruz"!

Rotarians Doug Core, Jim Perry and Denny Daar Talk About the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Foundation and an October Barbecue Contest Fundraiser.
Doug and Jim spoke about building a "Legacy Fund" within the club Foundation as well as the difference between our club Foundation and the RI Foundation.  Denver/Lake Norman Rotarians are encouraged to contribute to both.  Denny spoke about the volunteer effort that will be required to put on the barbecue contest fundraiser both this year and in the future as the event grows.

Last Chance This Wednesday for Shoe Donations for "Shuz for Santa Cruz 2025"
Jim and Ash Minor will be going on a Building Mission trip to Guapiles, Costa Rica from January 31st to February 7th with the Men's Mission Team from the Weddington UMC. They will once again carry any donated shoes for distribution to the underserved rural communities surrounding Guapiles, notably Santa Cruz. Jim will be collecting donated shoes at our weekly meetings through January 22nd. We may hold a shoe sorting and packing "pop-up" session during our meeting on the 22nd. Any and all "gently used" shoes for infants, toddlers, adolescents, men and women are welcome. This area is 700 miles north of the Equator and it's HOT there year-round, so no winter footwear please!! Thanks to our Club for their perennial support of this great humanitarian shoe donation program!!

Cindy gave for her successful therapy and thanked everyone for their help and kindness.

Jim Minor was glad to see Debbie back, happy to have Edward here, and he let us know he lost a friend of forty eight years and since the new year he has lost three friends. Jim let us know he is glad to be here today! Glad for this group and tell people you love them.

Debbie celebrated her one week of recovery from her gallbladder surgery, post op feeling great.

Panico gave for Jim Perry kind to hold the door.

Sherrie gave in celebration of her fourteen year old granddaughter success in volleyball, and thankful for our group’s help with child advocacy with recent budget cut 67% our help will be needed more than ever.

Mike reminded everyone there really was a Smokey the Bear. He was a cub found in a tree after a wildfire in Arizona and the Smithsonian zoo housed him where Mike would visit him in his youth.

Dr. Nadra gave bucks for Happy New Year and his practice has a new PA Charlotte, who started Jan 2nd. Also celebrating his son Edward’s early graduation from Davidson, and will be going to law school, grateful for all of us.
