I hope you've had a Great beginning to your week. Last meeting we had a dynamic and eye-opening presentation by Amelia Stansell on human trafficking and how we can be a part of spreading awareness and how to support the efforts to rescue and help survivors through the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery. Ms. Stansell left us with extremely important information related to what to look out for and be aware of regarding the signs of a potential victim, how to approach and what to say to someone we are concerned about, and if we see something to say something immediately and where to report it – the National Human Trafficking Hotline, which is 24/7, confidential and toll free: 1-888-373-7888 or Text BEFREE. This kind of education strengthens our ability and opportunity to help promote the safety and well-being of our community’s children, adolescents and many vulnerable adults, and supports the good works of law-enforcement, social services, the Lincoln County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and our CAC, the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse. Your intuition and thoughtful compassion can make all the difference for someone who needs help, so remember if you see something, say something. Your voice is powerful.
Thank you,
Trudie
Wednesday is Last Day for Collections for Operation Warm 2025 - Opportunity to Buy Coats and Hoodies for Foster Kids
This is Denver/Lake Norman Rotary's seventh year working with Operation Warm to provide a new winter coat for every child in foster care in Lincoln County. The club purchases coats that keep infants, children, teens and young adults (birth to 21 years) warm all winter. The recipients get to pick the color of the coat that they desire and their Social Worker provides the size for ordering and then, delivers the coat to the child. Older children will receive hoodies since they much prefer them to actual coats.
The committee is headed up by Cathy Smiley and will raise money for approximately one month so that orders can be placed with our various suppliers.
Please make checks out to the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation with "Operation Warm" on the memo line, so that your contribution can be tax deductible. Businesses, neighbors and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to donate.
