I hope everyone had a relaxing, albeit freezing, weekend. Jason and I spent ours with family and friends executing baby showers for Katie and Isaacs’ upcoming arrival of their first child. It was a wonderful time. Boy these two are so fortunate to have so much love and support as they start their little family.
During the planning and prepping I learned an interesting lesson. It involves photographs. Obviously, in the past 10+ years we have really gone away from physical photographs and photo albums. As I poured through hundreds of baby and childhood pics of Katie, I realized how important they are. Not just for the sake of nostalgia but also for the ability to create and retain memories - and to assist with recollection of where one comes from and to see how far they have come.
So after hours of crying, and sometimes outright sobbing, looking back at lost loved ones and happy memories, it hit me that I need to do something. No one wants to sit and scroll to look at what amounts to thousands of pictures over a phone (often dozens of the same pose just slightly different or with a different filter) I like an Aura frame where photos cycle through but I think my preference is the photo album because they typically show chronological progression over a course of time in one’s life. Perhaps this is the beginning of knowing that I am getting old. Maybe I am not as hip as I once thought I was (which is ok with me) but I do see a HUGE project in my future of creating albums for my loved ones so they feel the warmth in their hearts when remembering events and family members. I’m hoping they have an impact and sit proudly on a coffee table for people to set down their phones and peruse through pieces of their history.
I have 10 years of memories as a Rotarian with hundreds of pictures that have captured a very special and poignant time in my life. Because of the lesson learned - there will be a Rotary album in my future! To all of you - thank you for these and cheers to another 10!
